Society Talks
The Society holds a monthly talk of matters of interest to those living in Maldon and Essex.
Next Talk - 5th November:

The Battle of Maldon – What Really Happened On the banks of the Blackwater in AD 991?
This is one of the most celebrated episodes in Anglo-Saxon history, immortalised in a famous poem telling how Earl Byrhtnoth allowed Viking raiders to cross the causeway before suffering a devastating defeat. But, how much of this heroic story is fact, and how much is legend?
On Thursday 5th November, Stephen Nunn will explore the evidence behind the battle and challenge some long-held assumptions: The traditionally accepted battlefield at Northey Island may not be the site where the battle was actually fought.
